Bio - Vaccinations
I think compulsory vaccination is a really complicated topic. It's a hard thing to argue that decisions about a person's or their child's health are not their own to make. However, I see no really good alternative. By keeping our vaccination levels high, we develop herd immunity. This herd immunity helps protect everyone, including those who might not be able to get the vaccination because they are immunocompromised. Things like the flu vaccine seem more complicated to me. With things like Chinese herbs and acupuncture we can keep our immune systems working really well and able to fight off things like the flu. On the other hand, as acupuncturists we might be seeing patients who are immunocompromised, and then it seems like it could be the right thing to do to be completely safe. I am totally on board with the article about how much of the push back against vaccines came from a source that was totally made up; however, I do wonder if getting a vaccine every year has some sort of negative impact on our health. I'm not sure, perhaps it it totally safe. As someone who's been extremely disillusioned with the western medical system from person experience, I always get a little hesitant with what we are all told we have to do and how it's the only way. It seems like with vaccines this is probably the truth though.
I chose to write my paper on biodynamic farming. I largely became interested in this because my mom is a bee keeper who has started using biodynamic practices. Every time I talk to her about this, it seems so so cool. I also sort of have a dream of one day having an herb farm a long with a practice. I would want this farm to work in total harmony with the environment in order to produce the best herbs. Biodynamic farming seems like an interesting place to start.

Thank you for your post,
ReplyDeleteI have been also wondering if getting a vaccine every year would be good for our health, are we possibly strengthening our immune systems by not getting it year in and year out? There's something deep in my gut that resists having to do this (but it's probably also that I don't like those kind of needles!).
I'm excited to hear about your presentation - that's cool! :)
